Physical/Mental State at Examination: Health good. Has been very well since his discharge from this institution until 6 days ago when he suddenly became deranged without any apparent exciting cause.

Current Diagnosis: Schizoaffective disorder (F25.0)

Case Notes

1905 Apr 19 - This patient is in very much the same state as when admitted in Jan 1904.

His general health is good. Mentally he is again suffering from subacute mania. Very restless and rather inclined to be violent. Quite unable to keep up a connected conversation. He eats and sleeps well.

25 - No change.

May 29 - Beginning to be useful, not so noisy and talkative, looks better. Aug - Improving in every way.

Discharged recovered Oct 28 1905.

19th July 1890 (No. 4210) with Acute Mania.

The Medical Certificate reads:

I. His wild maniacal appearance. Incoherence in his replies to questions.

Delusions. Imagines the nurse to be the "figure head" of a vessel.

II. Facts communicated by John Davies, Labourer at Plas Du Farm: That he, Owen Jones, got a razor and threatened to attack with the razor and attacked others with a bayonet.

Discharged 24th November 1890 recovered.

28th April 1892 (No. 4451).

The Medical Certificate reads:

Facts communicated by Evan D. Williams, School master, Ty Newydd, Llanarmon - that he wanders , is violent to his mother and sister, threatening with a carving knife, and also himself with a stone, sleepless and wandering. Diagnosed with Acute Mania he was discharged recovered on 19th November 1892.

5th September 1894 (No. 4790).

The Medical Certificate reads: He is extremely violent and dangerous, wanders about, has many delusions, declares I must be killed for sending vessels to the North Pole and Australia in 24 hours.

By his mother, Mary Jones, that he is violent and excited, dangerous to himself and to others, would wander if allowed.

Ann Jones, sister, that he is violent and dangerous. Again diagnosed with Acute Mania he was discharged recovered on 18th June 1895.

27th March 1901 (No. 5814).

The Medical Certificate reads: 1. He said I was his eldest brother.

He asked me if the woman in the room was my wife, who really was his own mother. He informed me that he had carved the age of our Lord on the front gate. 2. His mother Mary Jones, Ty Newydd, Llanarmon, said he was very violent and broke the windows of his bedroom, gets into sudden fits of rage, in which he acts with violence towards his friends without cause.

Discharged, this time relieved, 26th October 1901.

22nd January 1904 (No. 6305) with Sub Acute Mania. The Medical Certificate reads: 1.

He gets into sudden fits of rage in which he acts with violence towards his friends without cause. He speaks incoherently and wanders over the home. 2. His mother, Mary Jones: That he is violent without cause and she is afraid of him. He refuses food. He does not sleep at night.

He was discharged recovered on 23rd July 1904.

Readmission:

Owen Jones’ last admission was on 11th March 1911 (No. 7615).

The Medical Certificate reads: 1. Refuses to talk to me and all he said was incoherent. 2. His mother, Mary Jones, says that he is dangerous and is afraid of him, he wanders about, she says that they were not able to sleep because of his behaviour.

He died in hospital from Pneumonia on 24th April 1929.
