Incoherent speech. Refuses to go to bed, has not been for six weeks, he says it is full of electricity which burns his skin and has burnt all the blood in his body. T T J, brother, Aberystwyth, informs me that he has threatened him, also threatened to do away with himself. Dr. E. Shelton Roberts, Penygroes, 9th March 1920.

Physical/Mental State at Examination: Fairly good health and condition. On admission states that his back has been eaten in two by discharges, which come out of his ears and which run up his arms and body and eat them also.

Current Diagnosis: Schizophrenia (F20.0)

Case Notes

1920 Mar 12 (copy) - Very rambling in conversation and childish and indifferent to his position. Memory is not good.

States that thing which he calls amps come out of his ears and burn up his arms, back and inside his body.

He has aural hallucinations but cannot say what the voices say.

Denies the statement on his admittance order that he threatened to do away with himself.

19 - Still suffers from delusions. Very unintelligent. Memory poor.

28 - No change.

Apr to July - No change.

Oct 1 - Complaining of pain in the side. Heart is enlarged.

Respirations feeble, shallow and quick.

No signs of congestion.

He is very very ill.

1921 Feb 10 (copy) - Suffering from delusional insanity and is also very depressed mentally.

States that every day for a certain time electricity comes and runs through his head and down his body and that it is causing him to be deaf.

He is inclined to be solitary and will not mix with any other patients and is very fond of grumbling and complaining.

Apr to July - No further change.

1922 Jan - The same.

Feb (copy) - Suffering from mental depression and becoming quite demented.

Walks about muttering and talking to himself.

Apr to Oct - No change.

1923 Jan - The same.

Apr - Convalescent from Pneumonia. Very ill and a case of touch and go. 1924 Jan - Demented and indifferent.

1924 Feb, 1925 Jan to July, 1926 Jan to July - Notes indicate no further change. 1927 Feb (copy) - Suffering from dementia.

Silly and childish in conversation. Memory is defective. Talks a lot to himself.

Apr - Bodily health is becoming poor and he is showing signs of portal cirrhosis.

Emaciated with dilated veins in face and abdomen.

Has occasional attacks of vomiting.

Apr 25 - Had a very bad attack of haematemesis on the 22nd and he died from cardiac failure in consequence. PM held.
